Summary

With the Lumea Prestige, you no longer have to imagine not having to shave your legs and arms every morning. It’s easy to use, it’s safe and doesn’t require any special accessories. And the best part is that it actually works.

Although numerous spas and salons offer permanent hair removal services, you’d need to make several appointments before your skin becomes silky smooth. Not everyone has that time. Plus, it’s expensive.

What if you didn’t have to go to the salon?

The Philips Lumea Prestige is a face and body hair removal device that you can use from the comfort of your home. It uses Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) therapy to prevent hair growth. Light pulses target hair follicles and after four to five treatment sessions, hair stops growing.

The best part is that you can use it anywhere on your body including your face, underarms, legs and bikini area. The device comes with special attachments for easy use on different areas.

What are you buying?

1. Safety settings

It is understandable to have safety concerns about a device that sends light pulses to your skin. But the Lumea Prestige is completely safe and has no known health effects, either short or long term.

It has a number of features specifically aimed at protecting your skin and making the device easier to use.

There is an integrated UV filter that protects your skin from dangerous UV light. The strength of the filter varies depending on which attachment you are using.

The face attachment for instance has a stronger filter for added protection. The bikini attachment has a more transparent filter to allow more light through. This is because bikini hairs are stronger hence more light energy is needed.

Another safety feature allows you to change light energy settings. If a certain setting feels uncomfortable, you can choose a less intense setting. This is especially beneficial for those with sensitive skin.

2. Skin tone sensor

IPL technology works based on contrast between the skin and hair. That’s why it doesn’t work on very dark skin or white/grey hair.

For the skin tones it can be used on, different levels of light energy are required. The Lumea Prestige has an integrated skin tone sensor that automatically determines your skin tone and advices the ideal setting for best results and maximum safety.

3. Easy application modes

The Lumea Prestige has two application modes: Slide & Flash and Step & Flash (also called Stamp & Flash).

The Slide & Flash is ideal for larger areas of the body. It allows you to quickly slide the hair remover over your skin without lifting it. It’s great for areas like the arms and legs.

The Step & Flash mode is for the more delicate areas of your body such your lips, underarms and bikini area. You place the Lumea Prestige on a section of your skin, press the button to fire a flash and then lift it up before moving on to another section.

How easy is it to use?

Really easy. One of my favourite features is the ability to use it cordless or corded. If you want to use it for a longer period, just plug it in. If you want a quick shave without the cord getting in the way, just unplug it.

The skin tone sensor makes things even easier. You don’t have to guess which setting is right for you, the sensor will tell you.

It’s equally easy to change between the settings and to interchange among the different attachments.

What accessories are included?

The Lumea Prestige has 4 attachments.

There is a body attachment with a large curved design and a larger window for quicker shaving on large areas of your body such as your legs. The face attachment is flat for easier use on lips, sideburns and chin.

The bikini attachment has a curved design that contours well against your bikini area. As I mentioned, it has a transparent window to emit stronger light energy. The underarms attachment also has a curved design to make sure you reach all areas.

Pros

  • Fast and effective hair removal.
  • Four attachments for ease use on different parts of the body.
  • Includes several safety features and settings.

Cons

  • Not suitable for light blonde, grey, white or red hair and dark skin tones.

Anything else you should know?

Like other IPL systems, Philips Lumea Prestige is not suitable for light blonde, grey, white or red hair as well as dark skin. Always check the smart skin sensor for the most suitable setting to match your tone and hair colour.

Conclusion

Imagine not having to shave your legs and arms every morning. Imagine not having to pay for expensive salon appointments every time stubborn hair pops out of your chin.

With the Lumea Prestige, you no longer have to imagine. It’s easy to use, it’s safe and doesn’t require any special accessories. And the best part is that it actually works.
